Barbecue Texaroni and Cheese

A while back, my grandparents who live in Texas sent me some pasta that is shaped like the state of Texas! I instantly had the idea of doing a barbecue macaroni and cheese with it, since barbecue is such a big thing in Texas! Of course you can use any regular pasta shape with this recipe, but it was much more fun to use this Texas-shaped one (which is actually called Texaroni!) Sadly it's a little hard to see the pasta shape in the pictures, but trust me, it was adorable!

I loved the different flavors in this recipe of the barbecue sauce and the tangy pickled onions. This is one of very few recipes that is a little hard to make substitutions with, but you could certainly use vegan cheese, butter, and alternative milk to make this vegan! You can also use whatever type of barbecue sauce you like, which could be premade or even homemade if you wanna make it extra delicious! This recipe is super delicious and indulgent, and I hope you enjoy it!

Texaroni and Cheese Recipe

Serves 2-3

Ingredients:

- 1 cup texaroni pasta (or any pasta shape

you like!)

- 2 tbsp butter

- 2 tbsp flour

- 1 cup milk of choice

- 1/4 cup barbecue sauce

- 1 cup cheddar cheese

- salt & pepper to taste

- pickled red onions (optional)

Steps:

1. Cook pasta according to package directions.

2. In a small sauce pot, melt butter over medium heat.

3. Add flour, salt, and pepper to the pot and stir, cooking for about a minute.

4. Add milk and cook, stirring often, until thickened and bubbling slightly (5-7 minutes).

5. Turn off the heat and add barbecue sauce and cheese.

6. Stir until cheese is melted and everything is well combined.

7. Add cooked pasta to the cheese sauce and stir well to combine.

8. Top with pickled onions (optional).

*Tip: If there is too much sauce or not enough, adjust amount of pasta to fit your liking.
